Stupid Harp Tricks # 1

OK, now check out the photo below taken by Miltonian Enterprises of me and guitarist Tim Sherman at the New Orleans Creole Restaurant in Seattle's Pioneer Square.  I don't know when this photo was created, but Tim looks like he just came from a wedding reception or something.

This was the night when I discovered that if I blew harp in my left hand and held my mic up to my right ear, I could get this really awesome distant echo harp sound out of my amp.  Who woulda thunk it!?

But wait, there's more!  When I use this technique, it causes Tim to fall asleep, right on the stage!

"Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..."

I know, I should use this superpower for good, not evil.  It would be fun to detune his guitar while he's sleeping, but the effect wears off as soon as I stop playing harp.  Say, wait a minute...!

Guitargasm at the Salmon Bay Eagles - 3/23/13

I dropped in at the Salmon Bay Eagles last night to see the guitar showcase hosted by the Eagles and Chris Stevens' Surf Monkeys.

The show featured the Surf Monkeys (Mark Dalton on bass and Russ Kammerer on drums) backing up guitarists Chris Stevens, Rod Cook, and the Preachers guitarist Tim Sherman.  I was invited by Tim to sing a couple of tunes during his set, and split shortly afterwards, so I only caught two sets of music.

One tune that stood out to my ears was the Surf Monkeys' version of "Spoonful" that featured a haunting slide solo by Rod Cook. The enthusiastic crowd was treated to plenty of surf and blues instrumentals also.

Here are a couple of photos from the show for y'all:

You should go to see this show.

Sheesh, this poster is kind of hard to read, ain't it?  Click on the image for a closer view.

Anyway, it's a show on March 23rd at the Salmon Bay Eagles  featuring Seattle guitarists Chris Stevens, Tim Sherman (Boneyard Preachers) and Rod Cook.  I assume that they will be backed up by the regular Surf Monkeys sidemen Mark Dalton (bass) and Russ Kammerer (drums).

The Eagles is a super friendly place with nuclear powered drinks, and a nice sounding room.  Note the low cover charge.  The club has been having pretty good luck with these special shows about once a quarter, so expect a decent turnout.

See you at the nightclub!

Stoop Down got married!

I called Seattle guitarist Tim "Stoop Down" Sherman a while back to discuss a forthcoming gig, and he mentioned that, oh by the way, he was married to his girlfriend Charlene in October. Say what?!

Tim Sherman and Charlene Kern - October 12th, 2009

Yep, Tim and Charlene Kern were married on October 12th, 2009 at the Schafer-Baillie mansion on Capitol Hill. The Reverend Dave Brown was the officiant.

Congratulations Tim and Charlene!
