Honey...I'm home!!

Speaking of Tom McFarland...I was playing with Tom's band at the old White Eagle in Portland, OR one night many moons ago, when an exceedingly drunk woman staggered out of the dark towards the bandstand.

On her way, she plowed into a table near the stage, knocking it over along with the three patrons sitting there and all of their drinks. As she was laying there, flat on her back in the pile of broken chairs and glass, the ever-observant Mr. McFarland looked at me and said, "Hey Mike, isn't that your ex-wife?"

Oh, the horror! He was right, of course. Fortunately, the bartender threw her out before we got a chance to catch up on old times. See, sometimes good things DO happen to good people...

Blues Boss - It was a wife that shall remain unnumbered. Don't worry, I have recovered from my serial monogamist ways!

Mike: Glad to hear about your recovery - perhaps you should sit down and have a long talk with a certain other local harp luminary our age... pass this hard won wisdom along!

Hard won is right! I think that some of us just have to have all of our financial resources eliminated before we start to get the idea. I recall Rod Stewart saying that the next time he starts thinking about getting married, he'll just give his girl friend a house, and call it good. Hmm...I think that there's a song in there - as Lonesome Jerome would say.

To anonymous: Hey! If you don't say who you are, how do you know that we think we're better than you? Do musicians think they are better than everybody else? Well that may be true, but we could be wrong! If you're a woman and you object to the tone of this conversation, why don't you say so? What does "better" mean, anyway? Smarter? There's plenty of people smarter than many musicians. And there's women out there smarter than me, I know because some have proven this to me in painful ways! Posting whiny anonymous blogs isn't anyway to convince others you're worth noticing, for sure!

A couple of people have asked me about the deleted post from Anonymous here. This wasn't action taken by the Jet City Blues Department of Censorship! Nope, this was a duplicate post, and was removed by our Department of Redundancy Department.

Hi Mike, great Blog so you played with Tom, I followed Tom in Portland with Pete Karnes those cats were the Blues in the 70s.Blueshound(BBF)

Blueshound - I saw Pete Karnes once. This was at a tavern in Seattle's Fremont neighborhood in the '70s. He was playing with a slide guitarist who played sitting in a chair all night. Do you know who this slide guitarist might be? Karnes had a big, juicy harp tone, for sure.

Anonymous - Bob Martin, I believe that's correct. I didn't play the White Eagle with Tom McFarland until the late '80s. I wonder where Bob and Pete are these days?
